Women Win When It Comes To Christmas
With Christmas only a few short weeks away how prepared are you? Indications are that if you are a woman then you will already be prepared but if you are a man you will have done nothing.
A Halifax building society survey has demonstrated how much more prepared women are than men when it comes to Christmas shopping. Around one in three (30%) or women who save for Christmas have said that they started saving earlier this year compared with only 15% of men. Nearl half of the women surveyed (48%) said that they had written a Christmas gift list but only 15% of men said they had done the same.
Although there have been reports that the recession is over many are indicating that they will be tightening their belts by spending less this year than last. Around half of the women interviewed (47%) and a third of the men (30%) have said that they were planning to spend less on gifts this year compared with last. Most of the men interviewed (75%) said that they would be changing their buying habits by shopping in the pre Christmas sales.
Many are turning to online shopping this year with around 28% of women and 43% or men reporting that they would be buying some or all of their Christmas gifts online. Many parents have reported that they tend to leave the high value, main gift shopping until last, particularly if they are buying large items. This avoids the need to find secure places to hide the big gifts from inquisitive little eyes.
Advice for consumers who want to save some cash this Christmas is to shop around, both online and in the high street. There are many stores providing some fantastic pre-Christmas discounts, some as high as 25%. Also, there are plenty of online discount codes available that will provide excellent savings when shopping online.
